WD My Book World Edition (500 GB) HELP!!!

Hi, I have A WD world edition drive and it quit working some time ago, I went to WD support and they offered to replace the 'drive'(the disk in the word edition book). I have about 390GB of data in it which is causing problems.data recovery solutions are too expensive and WD has no suggestions for this issue. One of the forums I googled up discussed about how the network card in the drives were having problems. I would like to know if the drive(inside) is still working for this i need know how to open the drive (instructions to which are conveniently not provided at WD site) and secondly what interface does the drive use (IDE, EIDE, SATA......)
I wrote to WD about a month Ago and their only advice is to obtain RMA and send the drive in for replacement, they are not mentioning anyting about my data(ie if they are replacing the network card or the drive )
I would like help on this issue
thanks

The common thing to try is to remove the drive from that WD case, put the hard disk into some desktop and try the following titles on it.

GETDATABACK
ZERO ASSUMPTION RECOVERY

Bye bye warranty but for some the files are more important. Also, where is you backup?

How expensive is too expensive to recovering 390GB of data? I think my WD My Book also bit the dust and I fear the worst. It clicks three times and fails to connect (via USB2). I moved to another enclosure but same result Sad

In your case, maybe under 50 bucks.

Put the drive in a new enclosure and re-test.
