WD 160 GB Passport help / problems / issues...

any help would be greately appreciated but i just recently boughbt a brand new WD 160Gb Passport external hardrive and every time i plug it in no matter what computer it will not show up. It just says unknown device but i cant access it or anything. Can anyone shed some light on this?

there was no disk and it doesnt even show up

This can happen for a few reasons.

1. It's dead.
2. Your PC has USB 1.1 ports.
3. Your PC has missing drivers.
4. The BIOS has the enable legacy USB enabled (don't change unless you know why it was turned on.)

Thank you this has been a big help but how can i fix this. I've been working at this for 3 hours a day =/ with no luck i think im going to give up

Disprove it. The final easy proof is the drive does or does not work on another machine...

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
