Aug 13, 2006 1:33AM PDT

Hi...This just started yesterday, I just went into a website when the top say 1/3 of the page became all wavy and fuzzy(lol..it wasn't my eyes)..I just thought it was just the site...It happened one more time last night on a different website, them this morning at start up the top third of my icons were blurry also..It lasts about 15 seconds them goes away....I have been getting a slight noise from my hard drive at start up the last few weeks, my PC has been running great for three years now with no problem...Any thoughts on whats happening?...thank you all in advance!

Since it's a CRT, speakers too close or other magnetics

Can do that.

Move speakers and items away from the CRT.

neon and fluorescent lighting can cause RF interference.

Also, degausing the monitor may help.

Wavy computer screen

TY so much for your response! I was getting dizzy from the wavy screen! Turns out that I had my weather raido too close to the computer monitor. No more wavy screen now!

PSU

What kind of PSU do you have? How old?
I've had wavy screen problems that were the end result of a near-death or weak PSU.

For your replies...I have a 400w PSU that is only 2 years old and when the PSU it replaced went out it just shut everything down! I haven't any speakers that are close to my monitor, It is still doing this but just at start up and now is wavy on the top and bottom of the screen and lasts for just a few minutes then everything is fine....I'm figuring its either my video card or my monitor...my monitor is 6 years old and I just wonder if when they go they start to behave this way!......thanks again, any help/thoughts would be appreciated!

Old monitors
Aug 24, 2006 12:17AM PDT

The quick test for a monitor problem is to swap out into another system. The fact your monitor is 6yrs. old isn't good and I suspect that's the real cause, its just showing its age. There could be outside forces like the magnetics as another poster offered, don't rule out RF sources as well. if someone recently moved-in with a ham radio or new transformewrs, etc. these devices can cause havoc if not at least weird stuff. You can at least with proper common sense, remove monitor and blow out the dust build-up this too is a cause of flasky operation as a last resort. You're best bet as repair wopuld be too great is to replace if in fact the monitor is at faualt.

Good advice thank you for responding..I am going to use my friend monitor for a few days to see what happens and looking at the back it is dusty so when I swap monitors I'll give it a good cleaning...thanks again...
