Watching Divx, Xvid, and other computer media on TV

Jun 14, 2005 8:51AM PDT

I watch a lot of TV and movies on my computer, but I recently got a big screen TV and would like to find a way to watch my computer media on the big screen. I just heard about the streaming media players that you can hook up to the TV and a computer network, and since I have one in my home, this would work well. Are there media players that support most or all of the video formats, as well as jpg and mp3 files too? Or would it be best to wait until the technology is a little older and more mature?

No. Here's why.

The encoding and decoding of those "standards" are flaunting some patents and copyrights. It would be suicide to build it without the patent or releases.

Hello,

I am currently in final phases of completing my ebook on how to build a home theater pc.

If you are interested in watching these formats on your TV, would you mind telling me which video card you have installed on your computer as well as the sound card you are using?

Thank you,

I don't know if I can help, but...

My video card doesn't actually play live TV. I download the television shows that I watch. But the card is a Winfast 3D Graphics Series. I don't know much more than that. The sound card is Creative SoundBlaster Audigy. Hope this helps.

Hello,

What connections do have available for the Winfast Video card? Also, is that a Audigy or Audigy 2 sound card?

Connections

I'm not really sure about connections. I have the standard monitor connection and then another one that I use with my flatscreen monitor that has square-shaped pins. And the sound card is just Audigy, not Audigy 2. I got this comp about 3 years ago now and Audigy and Extigy were the big sound cards out then.
