General discussion

Watched the Grammy's last night

Feb 16, 2016 7:42PM PST

I noticed I knew more dead singers than live ones. (born in 1947). The tributes were good. Lady Gaga/Bowie was excellent. Add applause for her stunning Anthem performance at SB50.

What caught my eye was the anti-smoking ad involving cats. Now I don't advocate smoking for 55 yrs like I have but this false science of cats dying from second-hand smoke is a tad hyperbolic.
My last 2 cats lived to be 20 and 22. Reminds me of when certain things would cause impotence or birth defects back in the 60's. Is fear the best way to condition the citizen?

Please understand I know the pain of cancer first-hand. So let's not go in that direction. I would like thoughts on my question.

Some people care more about their pets than they do themselves. So they could be using love(fear of losing the pet?) as the motivation.

Just as I figured

"Sometimes people don't care enough about themselves. They do care about their pets," she says. "And cat videos, of course. They capitalize on this cultural phenomenon where people just love cat videos."

The financial cost is another "motivator"...that one works for me.

Exploiting peoples fears
Feb 17, 2016 2:46AM PST

is a marketers dream tool. When they run out of fears to exploit, they create new ones. Your birth year is the same as mine so, in many ways, we may share the same experiences.

I don't bother with the Grammy's anymore. Seems like a lot of people patting each other on the back for being able to collect the most money from the people in their own viewing audience while these same people clap and cheer. It seems odd to me that the entertainment industry gets away with doing this.

I've not purchased new music for many years. Anything I buy today is older stuff produced and recorded long ago. I've become the complainer that my parents were when I played music by the Byrds and other pop/folk groups in the '60s.
