WORKER FIRED, THEN SUED BY FORMER EMPLOYER. (Sorry for their caps!)

>> Firing a worker for lackluster job performance apparently wasn't enough for one company. Now, the credit card marketing company is suing to recover the man's salary and the profits it says it lost.

U-S Card Partner Services fired its sales director last year after just eight months on the job. The lawsuit for breach of contract claims he misled the company about his qualifications, and it says he spent too much time playing with his i-Pod and making personal calls.

The company says he also failed to supervise employees and turn in paperwork. The lawsuit filed in U-S District Court in Delaware seeks three hundredthousand dollars in back pay and lost profits. <<

There's an ex-dean at my school who schould be quaking in his boots if this precedent stands!

What was he doing, Dave...

What was he doing, Dave, playing games or fooling about in the internet during working hours? I dare say that a lot of the later goes on, especially on the internet during election season.

Read an op-ed re: minimum wage. Would you pay someone who only has $4 an hour productivity $5.15 an hour? The trouble comes when a worker produces above and beyond and the middle/upper management takes the credit.

the middle/upper management takes the credit." Happens quite often that I've observed in hugh companies and the military. A good boss/supervisor will always see to getting the employee(s) that got the feather in his/her hat a promotion with pay increase, or a better job. That is why people would request assignment or transfer to my department or outfit.

Just wondering if that $300,000 included

money that the company had to pay him for 'severance' in his contract. That could be the larger amount and the main reason for being sued.

eight months to question an employee who fails to supervise employees, turn in paperwork, spent too much time playing with his i-Pod,making personal calls, and his qualifications are called into question.

It seems to me that the company needs to share accountability also for not manageing the employee properly, and as well for allowing this situation to get to this point.

It is very possible that politics have a hand in this.
