Watch Out for TigerDirect.com Rebates

Dec 13, 2005 4:46AM PST

I purchased a FujiPlus 19" monitor with a $70 rebate in July 2005. After waited 10-15 weeks for processing, I called the rebate phone number. I talked to ladies who answered the phone, Summer & Meggie at least 5 times during Mov & Dec, no email response as promised or called back. I recommend not buying anything from tigerdirect w/ rebate attached.

Toshiba rebate problem
Jan 19, 2006 6:13AM PST

I have problem collecting the $50 rebate for the notebook I bought july 2005.
When I called Toshiba 6 weeks after mailing the rebate form, they said they couldn't find it.
Then I sent copy of the receipt again as suggested by the customer service ( By certified mail this time).
That didn't help. Then I faxed the same copies to the two people i talked afterwards - and to this day no action has been taken. I am really frustrated with Toshiba Rebate.

It has been more than 20 weeks. I wish somebody start class action law suit against them

Watch out for TigerDirect.com Rebates
Dec 20, 2005 2:35AM PST

They make you jump through impossible hoops and then reject your rebate.. Plus they only let you submit a rebate once.... Example- you must have a return address on you envelope or you will be refused. I will not buy from these people again.

TIGER DIRECT REBATES
Jun 8, 2006 11:07AM PDT

Shipping from Tiger Direct was fine, but that's where it ended. I applied for 4 rebates for 3 items. I got an email from ONREBATE.COM refusing to pay one of them. Per their email instructions to me, I sent it on time. They quoted the fine print on the rebate form and would not honor their email to me.
Twice I've emailed Tiger Direct for HELP, but to no avail. Because of their neglect to someone who just spent over $700 with them, I'll never buy from Tiger Direct again.

Rebate Rip-off Company.>>> OnRebate (aka TigerDirect)
Rebates, that are not paid, I have had two rebates not paid by this company. I have repeatedly tried to call, but burn up your phone waiting, Phone prompts is all you get. E-mails go unanswered. Check this site out before you buy, hoping to get your rebate.

141 complaints, Plus BBB of Florida has file on this company. I just want to pass this on. So you think your getting a good deal on a rebate. Be sure who you are dealing with.

onrebate.com-not all bad
Mar 3, 2006 9:45PM PST

I placed an order with Tiger Direct on 2/20/06. I received the DVD drive on 2/23/06. I sent the rebqate package to onrebate the same day, and I deposited my rebate check yesterday afternoon.

As many rebates as there are at any one time, there are bound to be problems. There is normally a long wait, but I have a Rebates folder in My Documents in which I copy all rebate forms, invoices, copies of bar codes and any correspondence. I have had to argue with the rebate company on one purchase a couple of years ago, but I have never been denied a rebate. Sure, I would rather get an instant rebate, but it isn't hard to track rebates.

Well Alan... It has now been three months and no rebates... I sent in two rebates.. One to the on line rebate place and the other to some address... The on line rebate place said I did not sign something... So I called them and they told me too bad, so sad, get lost... I signed everything everywhere and resent everything (within the necessary time period)... They threw it away... As I said I have never seen a check on the other rebate...

OnRebate quote from BBB
Mar 4, 2006 5:12AM PST

Alan, Lucky you, Here's a quote from BBB.

"Thank you for contacting the Better Business Bureau concerning the dispute you are having with the above named company. We have forwarded your complaint to the company for their comments and/or action. You will be informed of the outcome of this matter. However, we must advise you that the prognosis for a favorable resolution of your issue is not good. This company has already "earned" an "unsatisfactory" business reliability report with the BBB. It is, therefore, doubtful that they will respond to us, or to you, concerning this matter. Nevertheless, we will make our best effort to help mediate a solution."

aka TigerDirect?
Mar 31, 2006 9:24PM PST

How do you know that TigerDirect and OnRebate are the same company? Simply because OnRebate handles their rebates? OnRebate handles rebates for several manufacturers, does that mean that all of them are under the same umbrella of some tech crime syndicate?

Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of OnRebate (I get the feeling that they're hired guns, and I wouldn't be surprised if, when looking for new partnerships, they tout the percentage of rebates that are unclaimed/denied), but I think that you may be placing blame wrongly. By all means, blame OnRebate for using technology to make it harder to claim a rebate, and blame TigerDirect for using their services (and let them know that you won't purchase anything from them while they continue to do so), but don't fire off the conspiracy theory that they are one and the same unless you have some more telling evidence.

Since you asked, here's proof they are the same company
Jun 14, 2006 3:57AM PDT

Since you asked if it was simply speculation to say "AKA TigerDirect" on my part based on the fact that OnRebate did the TigerDirect rebates, the anwer is no, and here's your proof.

Both TigerDirect and OnRebate are "wholly-owned subsidiaries" of Systemax. If you're not familiar with corporate double-speak, that means that, "Yup, they're essentially the same company." Even the same street address on most of their documents.

You can read all about it here:

http://jerryfeil.com/tigerdirect.htm

or take my word for it from the highlights below copied from Jerry's site (bless you guy for exposing this sleazy company for what it is). You'll have to visit Jerry's site to see the photocopies of the annual reports filed with the State of Florida for the two companies, though.

begin quote from Jerry's site:

First, look at their web domain registrations:

NS2.HIGHSPEEDBACKBONE.NET 199.181.77.21
MARCOPOLO.TIGERDIRECT.COM 199.181.77.91

Note that Peter Amato is the Administrative Contact for both domains. Both domains are registered to Highspeedbackbone.net. It's interesting that there's a TIGERDIRECT name server in the same Class C block of IP addresses as highspeedbackbone.net. Let's look at the domain registration for Highspeedbackbone.net:
HIGHSPEEDBACKBONE.NET
Registrant:
Highspeedbackbone.net

NS2.HIGHSPEEDBACKBONE.NET 199.181.77.21
MARCOPOLO.TIGERDIRECT.COM 199.181.77.91

Notice that Peter has a tigerdirect.com email address.
Now let's do a traceroute to both domains to see what IP address they resolve to:
Query Results:
sl-bb20-ana>trace tigerdirect.com

Tracing the route to tigerdirect.com (199.181.77.35)
Tracing the route to onrebate.com (199.181.77.35)
Isn't that cozy! OnRebate.com and TigerDirect.com resolve to the SAME IP ADDRESS!
How about the corporate records?

Still not convinced? Below are the 2006 State of Florida Annual Reports for both Onrebate.com and TigerDirect. They were both filed the same day from the same address and signed by the same person. The phone number provided on both reports is listed to Systemax. If you go to the Onrebate.com web site and click "about us", you'll see a bunch of other people and a boca raton address. Don't be fooled. As of Feb 1, 2006, OnRebate's legal address was the same as TigerDirect.

And there's still more there. This is the highlights.

TigerDirect.com rebates are horrible!!!
Jan 13, 2006 12:40AM PST

I bought a monitor that had two rebates, one through the company that makes the monitor and the other through an onlne rebate company. I bought the monitor in September and still have not received word of whether or not I will ever see the money from these rebates. I have tried to contact the companies doing the rebated to no avail. Beware of buying anything from TigerDirect.com that has a rebate, you will never see that money.

Tiger Direct Rebate Horror
Jan 13, 2006 5:25AM PST

I have saved all papers and correspondence with these people... I think about March I am going to send this documentation to the Tiger Direct Marketing Director and the Federal Trade Commission.... I do not believe they intend to pay these rebates and that they are intentionally setting up every roadblock they can so they can default on their payment. Do you know their fine print reads that they can deny payment if you do not put a return address on your envelope.... WoW... Do not buy anything from Tiger Direct if it requires a rebate....

TigerDirect and OnRebate.com Rebate Rip-off
Mar 15, 2006 5:37AM PST

A warning about TigerDirect and OnRebate.com's rebate offers. In December 2005, I ordered several products from TigerDirect with a total of $255 in rebates. All but one $10 submission was denied.

OnRebate said that the invoice that I submitted didn't have enough information in it. The fact is, I printed the invoice from TigerDirect's Web site.

I called TigerDirect they gave me a phone number to call (888.222.9300 and this one was on the email they sent me 866-310-9701). I've called four times and waited 30 minutes or more then they disconnected me.

I've done some research on these two companies, it appears that TigerDirect and OnRebate are of the same company. TigerDirect's principal address is, 7795 WEST FLAGLER, STE 35, MIAMI FL 33144 US and OnRebate.com's principal address is, 7795 WEST FLAGLER STREET, MIAMI FL 33144. Is that coincidental or what?
