Warranty question on open box TVs

Feb 12, 2009 12:54AM PST

Here's a question I should have asked here first. I ordered an open box LN40A630 from Amazon Warehouse, i.e., a customer return that's being resold. Many, if not most dealers I've seen who sell open box items of this kind include the manufacturer's warranty, I assume because the person who returned it is no longer considered the original purchaser. However, Amazon customer service writes that they don't warranty Warehouse items because different manufacturers handle these kinds of items differently. I'm wondering what Samsung's policy is and how they would handle this if any problems arose (hope not). Thanks.

Warranty

genegold,

Unfortunately, interpreting and clarifying our warranty legal scripts puts me in the uncomfortable position of being quoted, or misquoted. Plus, for your sake, I don't want to make a possible mistake.

If you'd like, when you receive your unit, post your serial number here, and I'll be happy to report back your coverage.

You have me worried...

I too have an open box TV. Also, I bought my TV from Circuit City after the liquidation company started running things. Does the liquidation company have to be "an authroized retailer?"

My serial number is ALXM3CQRQ907427X

Not here to scare....

The_Pickle,

I wouldn't be able to access that information. If you want, call 800-SAMSUNG and check your warranty on that.

It was still sold as a new unit, however, and likely carries the full warranty. Again, I can't speak to specific warranty issues.

Always register your units online first, and then proceed to inquire.

Keep me posted.

Bought extended warrenty
Feb 20, 2009 6:46AM PST

I went ahead and bought an extended warrenty through Samsung as the price was very good (and Circuit City is no longer selling it's warrentys). Everything being sold at Circuit City is being sold "AS IS" but with claims that the full manufacture warrenty is in effect. So, hopefully, I am covered. But, I will have to take a closer look when the warrenty contract arrives.

Thanks for your help!

Warranty question on open box TVs
Feb 19, 2009 2:20AM PST

The open box LN40A630 arrived today. The S/N is AQD83CSQ804886X. Not registering it yet until I make sure operation is ok (Amazon Warehouse gives 30 days), but would like to know the warranty status. Many thanks.

Warranty answer....

genegold,

Assuming the unit wasn't sold "As Is", the warranty should be a year from the receipt of purchase. The warranty on an open box, however, does not cover physical damage or missing parts. This should be considered a guideline, not to supercede any written warranty included in the box, and any additional questions should really go through the agents who are qualified to assist with warranty issues at 800-SAMSUNG.

Warranty on Open Box unit
Feb 20, 2009 11:05AM PST

No, it was not sold "as is," since there is a 30-day return. Understood about the rest. It does have the limited warranty sheet inside. Do I go to the Samsung site and register it, when ready? Thanks.

I would...

Signing up on the website still gives you an additional 3 months of warranty coverage. You'll also want to keep your receipt in a safe place.
