Question

Warped Flywheel (Needing ideas)

Jul 11, 2017 1:25AM PDT

I just put a new Exedy Stage one clutch in my 2006 MX5 and after 3 weeks it's already slipping. I can only guess my flywheel is warped. If anyone has any ideas to why I could burn up a new clutch in 3 weeks let me know.

New clutch slipping...bad flywheel.?

Been a long time but

I'd always replace the clutch and throw-out bearing at the same time. I'd also resurface (or replace) the pressure plate as these weaken over time and cause premature slippage.

Clutch

Hi, Travis; I can almost guarantee you that it isn't a warped flywheel. My first question would be: Did you have the flywheel resurfaced or replaced? Were there 'hot spots' on the flywheel or pressure plate?
If you didn't have it surfaced, these 'hot spots' can cause a chatter when engaging the clutch. A rear main seal leaking onto the flywheel can cause the disc to slip and chatter. Although rare, could be a faulty pressure plate (assuming you replaced it, which you should have). Be sure to have some free-play
when you initially adjust the clutch (if it's adjustable...some hydraulic slave cylinders aren't).
Good luck. Loren
