Warning re Expensive lesson from ATTWireless

Oct 27, 2004 8:19AM PDT

This is a heads up for those using Attwireless. Pay two days before your expiration if you want to keep your unused $$s or they wipe it. (GoPhone, no contract plan)

Attwireless wiped $124 from my account because "they said" I was late paying. I paid on 10/22/04, which was their billing site date for "Estimated Date of Next Payment". They said I should have paid 24 hours before that.

They send no bills: paper or email. They take a payment period of 30 days, not the same number of days such as 9/22, 10/22 etc. My first payment was 9/29/03.

I have the GoPhone where I pay a fee and have no contract. I rarely use the phone, never text message or surf the web. I wouldn't have gotten the excess money back when I cancel the service; therefore, it was already lost money.

I want a cell phone provider who does not require my social security number. I am going to look into Virgin and T Mobile for a non-contract plan; therefore, no SS# required, just buy cards for more minutes. With Cingulars take over of ATTWireless I'll need something in the interim until they get their act together. Bad enough to lose the $124, but to lose service while paying for the priviledge, no thanks. Enough is enough. Glad when the government FINALLY decides to regulate them like the regular phones.

Don't get me started on trying to understand the tech explain how dumb I was. If his accent wasn't so thick I might have been steamed.

Just sharing one expensive lesson learned.

How could they have swiped $124 from you acct when the highest gophone rate plan is $70.00? If your usage is like you say, " I rarely use the phone" why didn't you sign up for the 19.99 gophone plan?

We have the 80 minute plan, 19.99 plus tax-now $26.93. Since we usually paid early (w/o knowing the "steal" factor, just always try to be early), the unused balance would be added to the next. This time the expiration date was 10/21/04 w/est. due date of 10/22/04, and we paid on 10/22/04 and zap the (several months) accumulated funds were gone.
