Warning !!! Ipad - network killer

May 31, 2010 6:03PM PDT

Be careful of IPAD's !

We are a media (TV/online) organisation of 200 people in Australia and have just found that the new IPAD (64GB with 3G) has forcibly rebooted our Juniper EX3200 24T switch everytime the IPAD connects to our wireless network.

We have Macbook pro's, IPohone's and ITouch's connected to the same wireless link and doesn't do what the IPAD does.

This is the error within Junos:
root@ST1CON1%
fatal kernel trap:

exception = 0x2 (data storage interrupt)
virtual address = 0x7374657e
srr0 = 0xa022d08c
srr1 = 0x29000
curthread = 0xa39a8900
pid = 12, comm = swi2: net

panic: data storage interrupt trap

This has been verified by Apple?

Given the huge user base of the iPad, I would suspect that this problem would be more widely known than just this one post.

What does Apple have to say on the matter?

What does Juniper say about it?

The iPad did not reboot my switch or router when I had one connected here.

Ipad network killer

We have a dozen Juniper switches and only one standalone alone EX3200 was affected. It had an older version of software 9.2 and IGMP was turned on. We upgraded the s/w and turned off IGMP from the switch as all the other swithces have this off and apparently Apple products utilise this path to broadcast multicast packets over the network for media streaming servers even though you have no intention of connceting to it.

We have banned IPAD's from our organisation for the time being.

This is only a warning to those professional organisations out there so as to how this unassuming consumer product can be damaging to a corporate network.

Indeed,

but now that you know what the problem was out of date software/firmware on your infrastructure, then the real cause of the problem was not an Apple one.

Oh well, it's your network.

Hi all,

Does anyone know how, who and where the field test for iPhone is performed in US?

Thanks a lot.

Cupertino, California, USA

Who is almost a secret but the location and the name of the company is a bit too easy.
