Warning! iOLO'S System Mechanic disables MS OFFICE!

Dec 19, 2008 9:41AM PST

PC USERS:
Be warned that Iolos' System Mechanic (newest version) has disabled my computers access to MS OFFICE, shutting down my business for the last week. I have emails from Iolo admitting to this glitch. In thier defense, they responded quickly (after a weekend) and advised they are working on it, but when I asked (nicely)for management today, they hung up on me. (stating: we've advised your options: this conversation is over)

I use a fairly new Dell Latitude PC with XP professional, and Office 2007. I have no access to Outlook, Excel, or Word. Office cannot be reinstalled, uninstalled or repaired. System restore did not help. (I am not looking for outside help, I'm on a company access system and cannot just transfer my files to a non company computer)

I just want folks to know that this product was obviously sold without proper testing, and that this company treats folks poorly.

Mr. Proffitt,
Thanks, but yes, it is intentional. . I see so many posts where folks anonymously cry foul, but can't back up their complaint, or try to smear someone or something while hiding behind a computer.

I posted my contact information purposely. If anyone wants to verify, I can stand behind my claim. But thanks for asking.

Just so you know.

The claim is valid. In fact many registry cleaners can break software titles like MS Office and many others. It's why most have an undo feature. Good luck in fixing your install.

Just so you are aware.

There are computer robots, (spam robots or spam bots), that trawl public forums like these in search of email addresses so they can be spammed.

That's why the note in red above each posting window in these forums ask you to exercise your best judgement when posting personal details, such as email addresses, in your post;

"Note: If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended."

It happened to me, too!

When I installed System Mechanic 8.5, I started getting prompted to install Office components when I used Word, Excel, etc. I reported this to iolo, and after a week, they sent me some tips on how to prevent their software from touching certain parts of the registry, etc. I told them their response was unacceptable, since 1) it did not fix my problem, and 2) I have no way of knowing which programs their software is likely to corrupt. I ended up uninstalling/reinstalling Office on one system, but another system got so corrupted that I had to do a full Windows re-install.
I bought 3 SM licenses for 2 years. What a waste of money and time. I can thank John Dvorak for this, since I bought SM on his recommendation.

I installed it and my whole computer went bonkers. I thought it was
something I did...I had to do a complete uninstal. About 3 months later I found the C.D again.. Wished I would have lost it... Same thing had to reformat my hard drive again..... Not until I read this post did I think it was IOLO fault... Now I know and they are still
advertizing this should not be alowed..
