A couple notes...

-> Turning off your computer while the BIOS screen is displayed is rarely the cause of such a problem, rather it occurs when Windows is loading. Specifically, the system BIOS pass the job off to the boot loader, which sets the flag that's later removed about the time the Welcome screen is displayed.

-> Turning your computer off even while Windows is booting rarely results in serious errors which require manual repair. Instead, the system will automatically cover and prompt you to use the 'last known good configuration.'

-> The repair options are not provided when you launch the installer from within Windows because there is no need to access the tools if your computer is bootable.

We turned our computer off on the bios screen yesterday and received the error. The link says just this. The lower portion of the thread are instructions on how to repair it. Just being clear, some aren't as experienced as yourself.

Generally we do not turn our computer off with the power button but we thought we had a virus and shut it off to be safe. By the way, it came from Cnet. I had an applet trying to entice me to do a Malware scan while I was here on Cnet. Just popped up out of the blue. It would not turn of by ordinary means so we pulled the plug. All I have to ID it was a part of an http:, Scanner2...... I was in a hurry trying to get ride of it and didn't look it over well.
