i have had a couple variations of pvrs in the past, (mythtv, media portal, then vista media center). i want to get back into it but there seem to be some very annoying roadblocks. to start, i have two tuners, hauppauge 150, and 1600. the 1600 has a digital tuner (ntsc and i am in North america)and also can grab some(only with hauppauge software) channels via qam.
here are my options as i see it:
vista media center: i have comcast cable and unfortunately with their hd i am locked into their box so my tuners are out and i am just not sure how else i could get the HD signal from my cable box.
mythtv: i am very attracted to this as it isnt as demanding on the hardware and can supposedly control and receive hd video via firewire connected to my cable box. i tried this option via a live cd and didnt quite get it to work. still i was not too motivated since i am not aware of any free way to get the guide data anymore since zap2it got bought out.
so what is the best option? i dont know why MS isnt jumping on the HD bandwagon and allowing for better connectivity(firewire to cable boxes or qam support) i think there is one tuner out their that will work with vista media center(homerun something?) but still, only one? what are others using? am i stuck with a pvr from my cable company?
