Question

Want to repair my SD card

Jun 11, 2015 8:08PM PDT

64GB SD card doesn’t work! It reports “please insert a disk into removable disk” when I try to open it in My Computer, and it can’t be formatted either and it reports error “Windows couldn’t …format”!!
I’ve searched this question online a whole day and tried all possible solutions found online, such as format it in Disk Management or with Command line. None of them works. I post question here to seek help from you. Are there other solutions to fix it? Thanks!

Answer
I'd try another card.

There are sadly too many fake 64GB cards out there now that fail just like you reported. XP also can't format this in many PCs. Try adding more details about host and cards.

difficult

It’s really difficult to repair USB drives when they get badly physical damage. I’ve experienced same problem with my USB drive. I couldn’t open it and see its correct size in My Computer. Neither Disk Management nor Command Prompt is able to reformat or fix it. It seems that the memory chip is damaged, which leads to system can’t format it. Another reason of such problem might be bad sectors which can’t be read or written. Since formatting is a sort of writing operation and rewrites file system. Thus if the drive has bad sectors, then it can’t be formatted.
In a word, if you can’t repair it by yourself, then buying a new SD card is a batter choice.

try chkdsk

if it shows in windows explorer try doing a chkdsk to see if you can fix it. if not, then you might as well toss that card. I am 2 of three in fixing my different cards that way.

"window couldn't format"

Are you able to see the contents...like maybe it's full? I sometime run into the problem of windows can't see the card at all, in which case I would use the partitioning utility called "partmagic" which is free (try download from Ninite).

It's broken

Understand there are no moving parts and usually anything "ram based" is going to need a s/w fix if any. Since, all attempts are not working then the SD is kaput. You can try to access but if this is actually some "fake 64" then that's back to the vendor. Of course, if not then a typical failure still reports results as yours. I have yet to save or repair such and can offer if any recovery s/w provides access, use it. I have used Recuva and Easeus s/w to at least see the contents and may get to the front end of ram access, like 16 out of 64, etc., if anything. These are free versions but work well, google for a d/l.

Data recovery for usb
Jun 14, 2015 10:10PM PDT

Seems like USB is corrupt or damaged , try free software's online, that may recover the data you have in the usb.

Such recovery may need to be hosted on ...

I noted that the host PC and OS matters. My oldest laptop's card reader will never support the card in question. Running recovery software on that system would result in more file system damage, not less.

I don't think it can be repaired. There must be physical damaged on the USB drive. what you can do is buying a new one and replace it.

I think I Got it Finally.
Recovering Data is not the solution Not even Formatting your SD card.
I have the same problem after some days it doesn't load some Apps in Android when i check it in the settings it shows "DAMAGED SD CARD"
I tried to connect with SD CARD Adapter slot in my Laptop but still couldn't detect and it asked to Format it.
I tried to fix it with "CHKDSK" utility but couldn't do it through windows.
But could do it with command prompt.
Not if you have the same problem follow.....

connect your SD card to computer.
open command prompt.
How ? .......
open run from start button
then type "cmd"
now type

chkdsk /X /F <SD card drive letter>:

If its K drive then

chkdsk /X /F K:

It will check your card and will repair it.
Have patience it will take around 10 min.
when it is done windows will detect your card evn your android phone.
Have a nice day......

Controller Chip is Probably Bad
Sep 22, 2015 5:24PM PDT

This error and problem is most commonly due to a failed or currupted controller chip. Nothing specified here will help fix this issue, as there is no fix. You should never run check disk on Flash memory either.

If there is data on this drive the only way to get it off is via a CHIP OFF process which virtually emulates the controller chip after doing a memory dump into a specialized utility running highly advanced software. Very few professional data recovery companies are capable of this, or even have the equipment. You can see a video on part of the process here.

Take away:If there is no data on the drive, trash it and get a new one. If there is data, call a professional recovery service that specializes in NAND chip off recoveries.
