Want to recover data from External HDD. Can anyone help?

Jan 24, 2012 7:06PM PST

Hi!
It has been 354 days, I have been using "Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk" external HDD. And it was working all good till today, while watching the movie a short cuircuit kind of sound came from it, and it gone OFF...dead. It is not starting after that incident happend just few hours ago. I went to Authorised Service Center of Seagate company in my city. They said It will be replaced buy a brand new HDD.
Now, my problem is the DATA inside it. I havent made a copy of it(want to kick my *** for that silly mistake). My all data is there in the HDD, nowhere else in this universe and i want it Back desperately. Is there any way I can get it back.
Another prob is, My HDD's warranty is expiring in next 5 to 6 days(hell! really a small window of time). I am totally confused. I want a new HDD and my data.
I think it will be costly getting my data recovered from private recovery shops. But this will void the warranty. aaaaa.......
Is there any way I can get my data back rather than losing it totally and going for a new HDD.

Go back to that service center. Let them acknowledge they'll give you a new disk, but give you the time to get your data back from an seagate authorized recovery company, without voiding the warranty. Or if they don't have such any reputable recovery company you choose. They should be able to help with that.

Usually we recommend drivesavers.com or krollontrack.com, but there are many others. And it won't be cheap if there's physical damage.

they will replaced it thats for sure.

They said, i have the remaining time of my HDD's warranty for finding a company for recovery work, as Seagate doesnt have recovery serices here at my city. And he wasnt ready to take any responsibilty to sending it to Seagate HQ for recovery work. He said a Reputable company(If i find any) has to follow the rules and regulations of Seagate for recovering the data. He made me sure that I going to get the new HDD only if i submit it before warranty expires. I dont want to lose money on both on getting the Data and on HDD.
If I am going to spend money on something then it will be on the data that I want back.
I want to get the data before the expiry of warranty.
Also I think there might be the problem is in the adapter(as the sound came from it) not in the HDD. But to find the same adapter as i have is another problem.

Physical damage? you mean internal or external.

I meant some hardware issue, as opposed to software or content (formatted by accident, invalid partition table and such).

It can be hardware problem. But I am not sure.

If it's only the power adapter ...
Jan 24, 2012 8:38PM PST

they won't give a new disk and you won't lose any data. The Service Center surely should be able to try another adapter to see if the disk works then. But you said the sound came from "it" in your first post. In the context, that was the hdd, not the separate adapter.

my fault!

Back then to the service center and ask for a new adapter under warranty. If you're lucky, that's all.

HE said he'll replace it.

The service center guy said he can replace HDD with a brand new one. And he said I will lose the data, as I will be getting completely new device than the one I am using now.
