That's easy: MS Office only runs on Windows 8 tablets and, since a few weeks, on an iPad (although you need to pay a subscription fee of $990 a year to be able to edit or create files and store them in the cloud).
However, If you're willing to use other office programs than the one from Microsoft you have much more and much cheaper choices.

Are you willing to use a virtual keyboard (a keyboard on the screen) for your MS Office use? Or do you need to connect a real keyboard and mouse for editing longer documents? That's rather clunmsy to carry with you.

I'd have a good look (and try) at tablets owned by your friends before deciding.

It very much depends on what you are planning on doing. If you are only going to do basic stuff like surfing the internet and playing app based games, you can't beat the Kindle Fire HD for the price. However, CNET gives the Nexus 7 very high accolades. Having never used it, I can't say from experience, but I trust CNET's reviews.

But as Kees pointed out, MS Office is limited to Windows and now iPad.

Why did you ask for a tablet? Some folk equate tablets with low cost. I don't think that's true.

Take a gander at the Asus T100 with its keyboard. You can get into a tablet and have a keyboard too. As to Office I take it you have the license or will use LibreOffice or Calligra so that's one nice solution.
