Want to buy new laptop AND desktop

Nov 3, 2009 3:47AM PST

I am in no hurry, but instead of upgrading my Vista 32 bit laptop to Win7, I think I might be in a better position to just buy a new 64 bit laptop with Win7 and replace my aging XP desktop with a new desktop. We really need 2 computers at our house, and prefer the main one to be a desktop. I am looking in the $500 range for each. Does anyone know of any good special deals where you buy one computer and get another at a steep discount? We use our computer for home use, not gaming, TV viewing, etc. Banking, internet, e-mail, etc. Any suggestions?

You find some 500 dollar laptop suggestions. None were 64 bit Windows 7 so there are none I see at this price point. You only have to wait a few months for such to show up or a sale to come along.

There are now a few machines that hit this price and your specs. Take one piece of advice and see those machines in person.

I think you're on a good track here, especially when you look at the home networking possibilities in Windows 7 - HomeGroup can really be a great advantage for something like what you're looking at.

The PC Scout lets you look at a lot of different criteria (on the left side) including 64-bit systems, so make sure you choose that option.

Here's that link for you: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pc-scout/laptop-set-criteria.aspx?mode=landing
