Want to buy ln52a650.. but very wary of the firmware

Feb 16, 2009 4:26AM PST

I researched and really love all the features of the LN52A650.. I know there are 2 newer versions of this tv, but I have found an awesome price for this one. I have read all the problems about the on off issue, and the new firmware to address this problem. My problem is reading how so many claim that even after installing the new firmware, they still experience this issue. How practical is this? Are there an extreme number of sets that aren't being fixed w/ the upgrade? Or is it more believable that it was simple user errors in installing the firmware?

I have never owned a samsung, and am very skeptical w/ changing my brand preference. I also wanted plasma, but the burn-in problem is way more than I want to deal w/. I liked the 120 hz of this model, and the 4 hdmi's along w/ the color. I just want to know for sure if this tv specifically has issues that are too complicated, or for a much larger number the issue is being resolved.. Unfortunately, far more people like to complain than praise in writing... Please help me Mr. Samsung!!!!

Want to buy...

mtelsey1,

There are quite a few posts dealing with problems, questions, issues and support for every product on the market today. While this forum constitutes a collection of issues, there are also thousands and thousands of happy 6-Series Samsung owners that are enjoying their televisions. The very existance of these forums were meant to address these issues and provide support.

I can't guarantee that you'll not experience any issue - nobody could do that. There are always exceptions.

I appreciate your consideration as a possible first-time product owner, and hope that we can earn your business. Any issue, should it be an unfortunate situation, we can address in the first year.

Please let me know if I can assist further.

Thank you for your reply. I am still very much impressed w/ the ln52a650, and am thinking of even going to the ln52a750, that decision being made after I am able to go see both in person in a "big box store". It is worrisome to buy new products now a days, w/ so much feedback online of what is going wrong w/ certain ones. I appreciate these websites, especially this one w/ your quick responses, in helping w/ my decisions. I'll be back if I have issues.. Wink

I read your post about wantinh to get the 52650 LCD TV...DO IT! I did I really wanted the Samsung TV cuz it looked amazing and at first I wanted the 850 series you know..'to have the best' but let me tell you something the price and the picture quality you get out of the 650 series is AMAZING! THe blacks are ttuly great the clearness of the picture and the richness of the color and man just everything about it is truly great I totally understand why it got the CNET editors choice award, if you look at CNETs listing of the best LCDs its right under the Samsung 9 series! So of course you get some people that say they had a problem with the firmware but I have had mine since November and have to yet to have a problem with it. I have a Bluray player and a XBXO 360 that I use on this TV and they both look absolutely stunning! I love this TV and know that it will last me a longtime...now if I can just get my wife to stop watching TV! Happy

Thanks for your input Zippy! I really appreciate it.. I have yet to be able to see one in person, but so many people such as yourself have commented on the gorgeous picture, quite hard to dismiss. I do plan to get the 650.. I was only nervous about all the firmware this and thats, but you did help show me that there are people out there not having "issues". Thanks again!! (oh and by the way, I did notice the cnet review of the 650, that is where I went first and researched from there)
