MP3 Player

Almost any MP3 player will mount on the desktop of a Mac. It would be seen as a removable drive, rather like your camera or your thumbdrive.
You should be able to drag MP3 files onto the device while it is mounted. I don't think that iTunes will give you the same functionality as it would had you been using an iPod.
You could still use iTunes to organize you tracks, you would just have to drag and drop from your music folder.
I believe there are other pieces of software that will behave better with a non-ipod MP3 player.

What, if anything, do you have against the iPod? Just curious.

thanks for the help. i recently bought some cheap mp3 player and did what you were speaking of. dragging and dropping from the music folder to the player itself. but,i found many times what i dropped in did not show up on the player. whereas with my old iPod, everything was included. maybe some different kind of music files werent compatible with this cheaper player?? i dont know.

last iPod was great, but the battery lasted about 6 months. ridiculous!

As the device must have been under warranty, 1 year, you course of action should have been to have it replaced under warranty.

Non-iPods cannot play tracks that have been downloaded from the iTunes music store as these are encoded with FairPlay DRM and only the iPod or iTunes can play them

for any particular MP3 player.
You might try the MP3 player Forum for a suggestion.
