Larry, Not A Bad Price But There Are Problems With Walmart's Downloads
Dec 18, 2003 2:43AM PST

The downloaded file format is .wma (Windows Media Audio) and that format is proprietary to the Windows Media Player. The site indicates that WMP 9 is needed. I'll need to check, but I'm not sure whether Roxio's Easy CD Creator or Nero will decode and burn WMA files correctly. (It is possible to burn CD's from within the Windows Media Player.)

But even with that, there are limitations on how many CD's you can burn and how many computers you can copy to the music file to. At the link below, you'll notice this is included in their license agreement:

http://musicdownloads.walmart.com/catalog/servlet/EulaServlet

You may download music to a single computer. You may then transfer music files and backup license files to up to two (2) additional personal computers. You may play music an unlimited number of times on up to three (3) personal computers. You shall be entitled to 1) burn Products solely for personal, non-commercial use up to ten (10) times and 2) export Products solely to a portable device capable of playing Windows Media ? Audio ("WMA") files such as a WMA-compliant MP3 player an unlimited number of times.

You must be 18 to use the service, according to the license agreement above. Still, it's not a bad deal unless Walmart is "sanitizing" your downloads for you. There have been some discussions that Walmart censors various music that they sell.

Hope this helps.

Don't know

I use it for a friend who is studying the old jazz singers (Ella Fitzgerald, etc.).

It is not perfect, some songs (other than Beatles) are missing, but you can't ask for an easier interface (but then, I've been using Windows for a long time, so I am easily impressed).

Apple v Apple as Beatles sue over iTunes

Beatles record label Apple is suing Apple Computers over its iTunes online music store.

It has accused the US computer giant of breaching an agreement by using the apple logo and Apple name to promote music products.

Apple Corps, the London-based company owned by Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the widows of

John Lennon and George Harrison, has begun legal proceedings in the High Court.

It is seeking damages and an injunction to enforce the terms of an agreement made in 1991.

Larry, et al, An Update On WMA Files
Dec 18, 2003 5:45AM PST

A quick check of our Roxio Easy CD Creator version 5.0 shows that WMA, WAV, and MP3 files can be placed in the "Project" window and burned straight to a CD, which should cause it to be a .CDA file, playable on standard CD players. It appears Nero will support WMA decoding and burning as well.(Nero Burning WMA Plug-in)

Hope this helps.
