Question

Wall Display of Video

Jul 8, 2018 6:07PM PDT

I'm not sure where to begin. Here is the idea. I want to hang a large LCD screen or TV on a wall and display YOUTUBE videos on a continuous basis.

My first thought was to hang a LCD screen and put on a stand below it with a laptop that diplays youtube videos. Of course I would need internet connection. I'd also have to figure out how to display youtube videos on a continuous basis.

Second thought was a LCD Smart TV. This is where I'm really lost. I don't know much about Smart TVs but my thought was can I stream Youtube videos to it on a continuous basis.

There may be other options or things I need to be aware of so if you have any thoughtsor feedback I'd appreciate you sharing them.

Thanks

Most reliable method is your first thought. Wifi makes this a breeze <pointing to the same setup in my home office>. This week I have been moving things around to facilitate a lot of world cup soccer viewing. Migrating to the ‘youtube tv’ has proven to be a great way to review/display all the historical goals and highlights.

Using a built in SmartTV app is the less reliable choice. They sometimes don’t get updated. YMMV

Answer
There are "digital display" TVs.

But you'll pay for that and more if you don't know how to deploy them. "Smart TV"? as a wall display? Never seen that. What I do know about are Raspberry Pi boxes running a wall. Here's the google.

Again, no one I know would try this on a (dumb) Smart TV.

With all the restaurants on shoestring budgets and $199 smart tvs at wally world, it’s really a common setup now. Replacing the tv every year is more cost effective than calling the geek squad Happy

He bought a few smart TVs and lost it over the issues. Just using the remote can do them in.

Let me show you what I have at my office today.

Just a small info system for a client. The displays are just under 99USD and the Pi's were 55 buck kits. We can use our own apps or ones from the web. Far more capable and configurable than any Smart TV today.

In the highest end system you control as many as you wish via a smart phone app.

Really neat stuff.

You are preaching to the choir of course Happy

If I mentioned the words ‘Raspberry Pi’ to any of my entrepreneurial friends who dabble in food, they would give me the deer in the headlights look and ask me if I need to borrow their oven.
