Wal Mart Music Service

Nov 12, 2005 6:49AM PST

Hi,
I'm very tempted to download music from Wal Mart's site at 88 cents per track, but after reading their terms of service and privacy statement I'm not sure. If anybody is familiar with this site, do you think it's safe or is there a chance they'll install spyware? Thanks.

I used Wal-marts service when I had a compatible player, and I thought they were fine. It was also nice to save $.11 per download. It adds up.

It's safe...

I've never downloaded music from Walmart, so I cannot comment on their selection and/or quality. However, I do have an account with them, and am familiar with their TOS and privacy statement. While it may seem daunting, it it is pretty much a standard legal statement, and is meant to protect both the company and the user. As far as malware is concerned, no worries...Walmart does not participate in that kind of questionable activity. They don't even install tracking cookies, which is the simplest form of adware/spyware that even Cnet uses. In addition, their registration and login sites are secure, verified by Verisign, meaning there's little risk of your information being intercepted. Thus, Walmart's site is just as secure and trustworthy as those of other major retailers.

Hope this helps,
John

that eases my mind. It's hard not to be paranoid these days. I just resigned from BMG Music Service and told them it was because their irresponsible actions put our computers at risk. Thank you.
