Wait for HD DVD Players?

May 31, 2005 10:43AM PDT

I finally upgraded to a Sony KV-30HS420, but what about my old, out-dated dvd player? Should I get a good progressive scan DVD player now or wait for the HD DVDs to roll out later this year?

I would just keep what you have for now. You could get an HD upconverter but I don't think that it will help too much with a 30" crt.

The question your going to run into when looking for a new dvd player will be to get an HD DVD or Blue Ray. Blue Ray looks as if it is going to be the dominant one manufactured right now

Why wait?

I would upgrade, if you dont have a progressive DVD player. There not very expensive anyway, so why wait.

I read about HD DVD players last year and am very interested to check out the technology. But with most new technology, it will probably be very expensive.

And not having a standard in place (HD DVD / BLUE RAY) wont make it easy for comsumers to decide which one to buy. My two cents.

the step up to progressive scan is a big one with an HDTV. they're cheap at $60-$70 so go for it. even when the HD CD players come out, it's gonna take awhile for many HD CD discs to follow.
