This threat is detected as W97M/Generic. On opening the infected document, the virus will disable the macro warning protection for Word. Its payload is triggered thirty days after infection, when the file scandisk.com is dropped into the [windows directory]/Start Menu/Programs/StartUp directory. This file is detected as W97M/Smy trojan and will cause the system to be unbootable.


Indications of Infection

The presence of the file scandisk.com in the windows startup directory.
