Hi, Roman; It is very possible that the driveshaft support bearing is the root cause, however, the only way to know for sure now would be to have the original transfer case inspected.
Can anyone help me on this one:
Few days ago, my VW Touareg started to make a loud noise whenever I pushed it above 2000 rpm. The noise was coming from underneath the floor between the front and the back seats. It felt like the shaft is hitting the floor from underneath.
So I took my VW to the mechanic which diagnosed it as a bad transfer case, which surprised me a bit but I let him replace it for an after-market one for a total of $1800. However, the day after he called me and told me that the drive shaft bearing needs to be replaced as well.
This left me thinking that the guy has misdiagnosed the problem and I didn't really need to spend that $1800 on the transfer case and the only new part I needed was the drive shaft bearing.
I will appreciate any thoughts on this one.
