General discussion

vr3 gps system

Jun 10, 2008 8:43AM PDT

i recently purchased a vrgp430wbc GPS system, and was pretty ticked when i found out that it doesn't come with any road maps installed, thankfully the one of the CDs that came with it will supposedly reinstall the road map, when i synced the GPS with my computer and tried to reinstall the maps it would get to the very end of the instillation process and then say there wasn't enough memory left for the map... now when i try and access the GPS function a 'fatal error' message pops up, i have sense bought a 1 gig SD card and tried the process over, still get the not enough memory message and i still cannot access the GPS function, does any one know how to fix this???

Return it
Jun 13, 2008 2:43AM PDT

I don't think there's a fix for it. Every GPS system you buy should come with maps pre-installed. The maps will be on an SD card or on the device's own hard drive, if it has one. If the maps aren't there when you start up the device, return it to the store, it's defective. The maps are actually one of the more expensive parts of a GPS, but they are just software and could be corrupted.

Reset your VRGP430WBC gps

There is a reset button. Use a pen to press and hold it for default reset. If it still does not work then use a backup DVD-ROM to re-install it.

VR3 Problems

If your navigation software is not working, go to the Settings menu. In there you will find a Navigation settings choice. In that you can change where the program is running. Apparently some of the units are pointing to the wrong place. Choose the executible in the Route66 folder. That should solve your problem. This unit is runnings Windows CE version 5.0.

Ended up with this issue here is the fix

Ok so this happened to my gps after an improper shut down. Here is how I fixed it. Follow each step carefully and make sure your gps is fully charged before beginning.

1st open up the route 66 disk to see files not actually accessing the program. Right click on the disk and tell it to open from my computer. you will see many files one folder will say memoryimage.

2 Then on the gps click on settings and go to backlight setting backlight to the dimmest stetting. Now go into power and tell your gps to never standby.

3 Plug your gps into your computer then turn it on. Windows mobile will come up click on connect without setting up your device. Under file management click on browse contents of your device. You will now see what is actually on your gps. Open NANDFlash.

4 Now select all items except the route66 folder in the memoryimage folder of the disk and move them into the NANDFlash folder of your gps. When it asks how to transfer tell it to replace current folders with the same name. It will then take several hours to transfer.

5 On mime the route 66 exe file would not transfer back into the actual route 66 folder so I created a new folder then transferred the route 66 exe file from the route 66 folder in memoryimage of the disk into my new folder in NANDFlash. Once it is transferred you should be able to click navigation on the gps and have your gps load route 66. Your maps will be locked.

6. I kind of forgot how I did the next step because I cannot get back to where I was because I have already activated my gps. Go into the main menu from inside route 66 and either enter the extras folder or route 66 settings. Somewhere in one of these you will find a place to activate your route 66. It will then give you a website and an id for your gps. Go to the website and enter your gps id and the code from the voucher code card which came with your gps. Once entered on the website you will receive an activation code which you will have to enter into your gps. I recommend you turn off your gps then turn it back on and give it time to find you. You can go into gps status to watch for a signal and once you have a good signal it may take several minutes to locate you. After it has found you it should be working fine.
