Question

VPNs

Feb 6, 2020 3:28AM PST

I know a bit but am a relative Novice when it comes to hardware and the WWW. I am trying to better protect myself on the internet and have attempted to install a VPN. I started off with Norton 360 VPN but had a lot of issues across devices. A colleague suggested I drop Norton and use TunnelBear. I have installed that and still have issues.Let me begin with my hardware: dell Inspiron 3847 @3.26GHz, *GB RAM and Windows 10 Home v1809. My internet is Satellite with a Double NAT connection.
Now I don't claim to know much about Double NAT but it has been suggested several times that my network connection is at fault and the Double NAT may be a factor. I also know that I don't have the most powerful desktop but all I use it for is eMail and surfing. I rarely stream anything except the odd Utube video when I want to learn something.
The issue with the TunnelBear, and it was the same with Norton, is that I can get connected sometimes but the connection will drop periodically usually after a certain amount of idle time. Attempts to reconnect will fail due to a time out with now error messages or the spinner will run indefinitely.
Any suggestions for troubleshooting will be appreciated and any opinions on how a satellite connection and Double NAT may be a factor will be helpful. Thanks

Now try it with a single. Even our office will never go out on a limb to give a client hope of solving double nat issues.

I have no control over this. it's the way the ISP provides the service.

That may be good news.

My bet is if there is a way to fix it, the ISP will know since they have thousands of users and they will be asked over and over.

As a side note, did you try the Opera Web Browser and slide it's VPN to the on position?
