VPN software messed up my computer / chrome

Hi everyone,

Here's my problem. I installed and tried out a free trial option of "safervpn" software but wasn't satisfied with it and uninstalled it. Unfortunately, during this, the software had somehow corrupted my computer with following problems raising up:

-Chrome browser lost all its bookmarks (even the .bak file)
-All the chrome addons were corrupted
-Pages load up corrupted / error
-Windows 8.1 startup menu tiles disappeared.
-Windows widgets disappeared.

I tried a system restore / backup to a few days earlier version but this didn't seem to work. At first I thought that the software had only messed up my network settings and the browser reacted to that but now I think it's some kind of virus / malware (avira says it's clean). So is there anything I could try before a full system restore :/

PS. I have contacted their website with no reply yet.
