Question

vpn connection not connecting through satellite

Oct 8, 2015 7:44AM PDT

I can only get satellite where I live, and my vpn connection for work does not connect, just errors out. I mostly get error 800. Is this on my computer/router or at the connection at the firewall of my employer?

VPN to allow access to it's internal network. It's not particular to any type of internet connect it just needs to connect to a specific address. Then it has to meets a anti virus criteria. Starting with Windows 8 VPN connections are built into the OS. My work hasn't upgraded their info structure to work with that so I had to just install the client.

VPN Connection via Satellite

This continues to be a reoccurring problem for people - it is possible to connect the VPN through the satellite but it is not recommended. The issue between connecting the VPN through a satellite is that VPNs need high-bandwidth and low latency networks to function and a satellite supports low bandwidth and has a high latency network. Here’s a useful blog that goes through various ways you can help speed things up, http://www.satelliteinsight.com/vpn-via-satellite.html. I hope this helps!
