Question

Vostro laptop USB connector repair?

Mar 13, 2012 2:13AM PDT

USB3 port on the back of a Vostro 3450 broke apart when disconnecting the mouse (the blue divider in the center broke off). The computer is under the standard warranty, which Dell says doesn't cover this; and, the repair is to replace the entire motherboard ($280 parts, and on backorder anyway) so I'm wondering if anyone has instructions on how to access/replace this connector?

Rant: This is a hardware failure during an expected and normal usage! Having it be "not covered" leaves me thinking the standard Dell warranty is pointless, and if I want to compare Dell prices to, for example, Lenovo then I need to price the Dell with "Complete Care" included.

Jesse - is that email correct? Twice I have emailed the information to you at "jesse_leonard@dell.com" address without any response (even an auto-ack) so I wonder if I've got it wrong somehow ...

O< we're over two months since Jesse offered to help - yet Jesse/Dell has never followed through, never even replied. Nicely done, Dell ... by the way, I just bought a fully loaded HP laptop for our business - and never even considered the Dell equivalent.

Wes,

I apologize for not getting back to your issue. I assigned your issue another tech for review and I thought he would reply to you.. Please email me your service tag number and verify your name, address, email address and phone number and the issue. I will then send setup service for you. Again, I apologize.

Thanks,

and Dell comes through ...
May 31, 2012 9:49AM PDT

After Jesse volunteered (again) he set up a tech to come to my house and replace the mother board, within a couple days. So, it took a while but Dell fixed the problem - and, I had *not* purchased "on-site" service warranty, so the service they eventually provided was better than what I had expected.

Thanks, Jesse!
