Volumn control

Feb 7, 2004 9:28PM PST

The volumn icon is missing from my tray and when I go to multimedia and attempt to check the box to allow, it won't let me. Any ideas?
Thanks

Nothing in your post indicates that it every worked or what make/model sound card you have or if you have a sound card.

The lack of information hampers any direct answer but does cause more questions.

A common problem is that people will load the Windows 98 OS and forget they have to enable the sound card by installing drivers for motherboard, video, audio and what else is in the machine.

Just so we are clear on this point. Microsoft's Windows installer and the Driver Update button does not do this for you.

The volumn icon was there after I reinstalled 98 but is not there now. Sound works fine and I did install correct driver but icon is missing and it's not highlighted in multimedia so I can't check it.

Sorry. No make/model and no indication you ...

As subject. You may have to install:

1. If no icon appears in the system tray, look under Programs / Accessories / Entertainment (or possibly Multimedia) under the start button for a listing called "Volume Control".

http://www.radiosky.com/skypipehelp/windowsmixer.html

This may not be added in all installs and Microsoft doesn't fix this for you. It's an item you get to learn and fix.

2. The sound card drivers.

While I may have HINTED that you should tell the forum what make/model sound card you have so we can find the drivers for you. Now I must just ask: WHAT SOUND CARD MAKE/MODEL DO YOU HAVE? Just so it's clear that this question is a good one to answer.

It's a Turtle Beach Montego 11 A3D 320V Sound card and I obtained the latest driver for it and as I said before the volumn control was there at one time but not now.
Thanks

Remove, then add the volume control as note in the web link I provided.
