Resolved Question

Volume won't mount

Oct 12, 2012 7:37AM PDT

My printer somehow became uninstalled overnight, and Canon suggested that I reinstall the drivers. The actual error message is to check that the printer is connected. I repowered both computer and printer, changed the USB cable and repaired the permissions twice.

I downloaded the drivers but when I click on the downloaded file I get an error message that the disk image failed and the volume will not mount. No idea how to fix this and would appreciate any help.

My wife's old G4 with 10.4.11.

THanks.

Problem solved

Euraka! Someone on another site suggested that I donwload the driver from Canon's Canadian site and that did the trick.

Interestingly the file name is exactly the same as the file downloaded from Canon USA but the Canadian verison installed faultlessly while the US version would not install.

In case anyone else ever has this issue and finds this thread, after installing I restarted the G4 and it hung up at the opening Apple logo screen. But after a full power down and restart all was well.

Thanks to all for trying to help.

Something is amiss at the Canon sites.

If I were to bet

I would bet the drivers came in some drive image file and that file is not for a PowerPC based Apple Mac.

Supply the web page you got this driver from so we can see if they supply a PPC Apple driver.

My bet is they goofed.

Remember I only have the clues you supplied so use the Canon support and ask if these drivers are for the PowerPC Apples.

Hi Bob,

I'm confused. Wasn't Tiger (10.4) only available for the pre-Intel PowerPC's?

That depends on what version of 10.4 you have
Oct 14, 2012 12:24AM PDT

10.4.0 was PPC code only and would run on G3, G4 and G5 processors
10.4.4 had an Intel version that was only available, officially, with the purchase of a new Intel Mac while the official installation disks were PPC code only.

There is a possibility, however slight, that Canon are disregarding the PPC machines and that their drivers for 10.4.x are Intel type drivers.

Just a thought

And as there are no PPC Apples in the cupboard here, I can't test this out.

Back to Canon.
