General discussion

Volume goes automatically to 0 on my Samsung LCD TV

Jan 24, 2009 9:34PM PST

Hi,

I have a Samsung LA32M51BS LCD TV. The last few days something strange is happening to the TV: When I turn on the TV, the volume is at 0. If I try ty turn up the colume, nothing happens (though the blue colored light on the TV is flashing). If I try to turn up the volume by pressing the + button on the TV itself, the volume goes up, but as soon as I release the button, the sound goes down to 0 again! I tried to take the batteries out of the remote to see if it's the remote that's messing up, but it didn't help. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this problem? Someone experienced the same?

Samsung UE26C4005 vol.ctrl + program failure
Jan 12, 2015 1:49AM PST

As described by many others in this thread I'm also suddenly experiencing volumen control and program choosing functions acting automatically and robbing me of having access to controlling my Samsung UE26C4005 at all.

I have tried Joes advice and disconnected the FRONT panel functions cable (these functions is not on the side anymore and it's touch buttons, not mechanically activated ones) + added some electrical contact cleaner where appropriate ... but the problem continues.

By researching the web, I've concluded that this seems to be part of a general problem with failing capacitors in many Samsung TV sets after a few years in use. My TV is bought from new in 2010.

I've read about people replacing a capacitor related to the power button on older models + this thread about the side panel (also a capacitor problem a technician concludes in the threads final post on page 3) ... and now I'm experiencing the same ... probably with a capacitor related to something I'm not able to sort out by myself.

Both me and my wife has mentioned the problem to friends and colleagues ... and more of them had experienced the exact same thing.

The technicians/repair men I've asked so far deem that it's to expensive for me to get the tv repaired.

Danish television also broadcast a feature some years ago about electronics designed to fail after some time. Samsung and the capacitor problem was massively represented.

Honestly, this isn't good enough, Samsung.

HP-T4254 has same issue
Jun 12, 2015 8:03AM PDT

I just wanted to add that I have a Samsung HP-T4254 for about 9 years now. This problem presented this morning and disconnecting the buttons worked as a fix for this model as well.
I agree that Samsung should be well aware of the issue as it presents on so many models and they should be careful to avoid this becoming a hallmark of their brand. That being said, I have multiple Samsung products and have very little to complain about. This will not stop me from purchasing Samsung products in the future, but it will cause me to research the components in future TV's that I purchase.

too little too late

You could fix or replace our broken TV's that we gave you money for...I admit, I like to fiddle with electronics, but having to tear apart a TV I just got a few months ago because the volume (and pretty much everything else, including 'seeing' my playstation) went to hell, is a pile of cow poo. As it stands now, I won't be buying *anything* else from sylvania.

It works!!!
Jun 8, 2015 11:44PM PDT

Thanks for the tip. Disconnected the small side-panel board, as advised. The TV is back to normal.
The side panel does not work - so be it.
I'll consider replacing it later (if it's possible and needed at all!!!)
Thanks again!

Awesome!

Years later and the exact same issue prevails! I opened up the back and found the wires (3 of them, 1 blue and 2 white) that led to the button control panel. Gently removed by knocking off some of the waxy glue that is used to keep in place, them wiggled loose so as not to disturb anything. And just like magic - I have channel and volume control! What a fantastic find and money saver! Now I'm ready in case my other Samsung poops out. Very helpful Joe!

Did not work
Jan 15, 2015 11:30AM PST

This did not work for me and now NOTHING works. I hear the tv power on sound, but the screen is black, no sound and I can't tell whether or not the tv is on or off.
I think I totally screwed it up now and will have to buy a new one.

Samsung Smart TV: Same problem
Jun 22, 2015 5:21AM PDT

I have a newer Samsung Smart TV and it is doing the same thing. I have disconnected the IR/Controller that is on the bottom side of the tv hoping it would work, but the problem still persists.

Do you happen to know any tips on tackling this problem on my newer Smasung TV?

I see folk unplug the button board. If that fails or is unacceptable you arrange for repair.

I've unplugged the wires for the little joystick controller on the PCB and left the wires on for the IR, but the problem continues. And I really don't want to have to pay someone to repair it. Do you think it's possible on my issue it is the larger PCB where the controller plugs into is the problem?

New issue with Source
Aug 25, 2015 10:27AM PDT

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the info on volume, I've had this problem also. But a new one had now started. The Video Source is now running through all sources, similar to the volume running up and down, it goes through AV PC TV and Component. Any resolve to this? Has anyone else had this. It's a Samsung: LN26B360C5DXZC, I'm Canadian so the model # may be different from the US.

Thanks you your brilliance. Marilyn

Joe,

No need to respond to my previous message. Removing the connection to the side panel buttons has corrected the scanning through Source problem as well.

Thankyou, Marilyn

The volume of our 7 years Samsung TV was on 0 and there was noway to change it or go to the menu window.. disconnecting the control buttons board from the mother board solved the problem and we are now using only the Remote control which is fine for us

Kevinl85, what did you do to fix the problem. I can turn volume up from the TV, but it goes right back to 0, the remote does not work at all, tried changing the batteries, but that did not help. Thanks for sharing.

Channel changing constantly
Jan 20, 2014 4:42AM PST

Had the problem with the volume earlier - that went away on its own after a day. Just had the problem with the channel constantly changing down. Followed the instructions above - unscrewed the cover, pulled the plug on the button panel, put it back together and everything fine. Never used the buttons, which some people are suggesting causes the problem, as they get clogged up. Also saw that some people solved the problem with a contact cleaner spray.

Thanks for your help - over three years after it was posted.
