Volume control on all universal remotes stopped working!

Aug 27, 2008 10:29AM PDT

I have a Pioneer VSX-D812 receiver that I have been using a universal remote to control since I got it. All of a sudden the universal remote stopped working.

Thinking the remote had lost it's programming, I tried to reprogram it to no avail. Most recently I have tried 3 other universal remotes that all do not work on the receiver. They all work on other devices but the only thing that works on the receiver is the factory remote that came with it.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be happening?

That's REALLY weird

what brands are the universals? FYI, I just read that Harmony database is pretty much down: DONT UPDATE AT THIS MOMENT.

I would bet my left nut that a URC will work perfectly fine. Use the learning command from the factory remote. RF-20 + blaster is $79 as of yesterday on amazon.

Tried that...

I was originally using the DirecTV remote that worked perfectly for many years. Then I bought a MX-500 thinking it was just the remote.... tried learning from the original and entered every code in the book but no go. I also tried an old generic universal but no luck.

It doesn't make any sense!!

At all.

Oh boy.

Well, I doubt this will help, but just in case:

When you do the learning command, HOLD DOWN the volume button from the original remote.

For instance, if I used learning command and clicked just once, then the universal needs to be clicked repeated times to get to desired volume. By having the command as a continuous hold down, does life become more simple for me.

Like I said I don't think this will solve it for you. Worth a shot? This is plain weird.
