I see the same things. I've seen in WMP 10 and 11. Most other programs such as RealPlayer and WinAmp have better volume and better sound quality. WMP player needs to be turned up to the max at which point it. Personally, I prefer to listen to most music and videos in something other than WMP..
One note, make sure to check the equalizer in WMP to confirm that all frequencies aren't set to the flat setting.. Tinkering with the equalizer will help sound quality and can increase volume but it won't normalize the volume with the other tools you've mentioned..
Hope this helps.

I mainly use Windows Media Player to listen/view most of my media files. But i notice, especially recently, that my volume on Media Player has reduced its maximum level. When i use other programs like PowerDVD and Real Player the volume increases. It seems like Media Player's volume is dictated by these other program's set volume levels. Can anyone tell me how to make Media Player my main volume control?
System: PC with WinXP
Thanks!
