Voice Recognition Software

Nov 6, 2006 5:42AM PST

Anybody have experience/reccomendations regarding voice command software?

Naturally Speaking (nuance.com) seems to have the best reviews and the demo is dope, but looking for hands-on opinions?

Make it so!

experiment with this before. You had to find a quiet place and train the program to recognize your voice. When I was trying it, it helped you to make selections. The dog barked and made a different selection. The microphone is an important part of this program.

I'm sure there are more modern programs out there. Are there any that you can try, say for 30 days? Then you can choose if you want to buy of it deactivates itself.

Thanks for the links. The more info the better. The one i'm looking at (Dragon Natural Speaking Standard) comes with a headset so I assume it is pretty good, but i'll probably try to find a store to test it out myself (or a store that let me return it if I like).

In regard to microsoft look i found on youtube, damn funny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkeC7HpsHxo

Dragon Naturally Speaking

I bought it recently (version 9) and it works great! It has improved tremendously since the earlier versions and has no training required--it'll work right out of the box. However, sometimes you do have to do a little training if you don't completely enunciate, but you can read a few short passages and it'll learn the more you use it.

Can someone explain to me the real differences between Dragon Preferred and Dragon Standard? I work as a transcriptionist and want to see if I can make more money using voice recognition, but am pretty inexperienced with it.

Dragon Naturally Speaking 9.0 Preferred.

I recently made the purchase and found the program is much improved from an earlier version I bought some 8 years back. It's great for straight dictation but not reliable when working within an open Windows based program. Frankly, I found the program to be "buggy" even with the amount of high RAM my machine possesses.

I cannot recommend this program unless one really needs voice recognition software due to physical limitations or immense amount of dictation. In addition, tech. support is too expensive. This is the only of the many programs that I own where one gets charged for "e-mail" support.
