It's been decades since I first saw speech recognition demo'd and I can flatly state that people expected it to work "just like in the movies." Reality is that your issue is far too common.

All of the Voice Recognition commands work except the "Call" (Name) (Location). When the command "Call" with a name/ location is given the phone pages back to the Home Page with no further action. If I say Call 727-XXX-XXXX it will dial with no problem. My phone book entries are entered correctly. I've contacted Tmobile (worthless), Samsung (close to it) and Nuance who makes the Voice Recognition Software for the phone (waiting for several days now for a reply)
I had the exact problem and was going balistic. I exchanged the phone twice for free (thaks to T-Mobile) and still the same dilemma. Technical support geave up and promised me to go deep to find a solution. So I wondered: If all their phones work well why is mine not? The only difference is ?????? THE SIM CARD. And believe it or not after exchange (Free of course) of my SIM everything works GREAT!! Call name and all... Try it - It's FREE - and it WORKS!
Finally took the phone back to the store. Got no solution from T mobile, Samsung or Nuance. Got a Blackberry Curve instead. Voice recognition works great with no SNAFU's or FUBAR's. Unlike Samsung, RIM Customer Service is top notch. Needed help with a set-up issue and then a setting conflict. Rep. was on the ball and had the issues resolved in minutes. Sat on hold with Samsung forever. Resolution finally came down to "take the phone back". KUDO's to RIM/Blackberry!
