Resolved Question

Voice dial

by netsiu / December 18, 2011 6:14 AM PST
Recently set the Android voice dial up on the wifes HTC Inspire. She drives Ambulance and needs to call some ER'S on the way in.
The thing repeats back correcly but dials numbers at random.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Is there a fix?
The non smart phone she went from has a much easier menu to operate and the spin through and stop without dialing other numbers is not a safe way to operate going code 3.

I use VLINGO and it works well for me. It is free in the Android Market. I highly recommend this app.

Focus on the task at hand. If they drive, they should drive and so on.

And why not dump this phone for the one that worked better?

One should what?

Communication is part of the task at hand.
The smart phone gives her entertainment and something to read between calls.

I would not think highly of a professional that used their equipment for entertainment.

Only when nt working.
Play time, read time is sitting on a street corner waiting on dispatch.
Ambulance people sometimes sit for hours in their rigs waiting to move to a different location to wait or be dispatched to save a life.
Not all hospitals are accesable by radio hence most medics and EMTs ave their numbers in their personel phones.

Again I'm asking if there is a fix for Google's voice dial.

Mr Proffitt! I did not say the radios don't work. I said not all hospitals are accesable by radio.
You are obviously unfamiliar with how the EMS and Emergency Responder systems work.
All across the country there are different zones. Different protocalls. Different radio frequencys. If the ambulance is going to a hospital with a patient that hospital needs to be notified not only that a ambulance is inroute but what type of medical incident so the Emergency Room can be ready to recieve the patient.
If you say that dispatch could do that, just remember how a sentence started at one person and passed to the next and so on through say 20 people who try to repeat the sentene exactly as given. Then couple that with the time delay of repeating, confirming, dispatcher looking up the number, calling and repeating.

I was involved in some 2 way paging system design over a decade ago. It is not what is used today but back then it was clear the systems were a mess.
