VOB files

Feb 11, 2006 9:15AM PST

I have some old movies I copied using DVD Shrink before the court decision to make them illegal. The movies are made into VOB files (Video Object Files). What do I need to play these files on a computer or other DVD player?

Mpeg-2 files

Most VOB files are just Mpeg-2 files in disguise.

If you rename them from mymovie.vob to mymovie.mpg
you should be able to play them in whatever
app plays your mpeg-2 files.

Any dvd player installed on your computer should play these files. Try Power Dvd, Win DVD, VLC Media player, etc.
If you have still have shrink it can burn these files (as long as you have nero or dvd decrypter) to a dvd and play on your stand alone dvd player. Or use whatever burning software you have.
