I think you made a mistake on "smooth motion" settings as when we put the "smooth motion effect" to off as you described in your settings, the "real cinema mode" can't be turned off and is set to smooth! Everything else besides that is great! Thanks and would appreciate your reply!

I'll take your word for it...

...since I don't have the set anymore and can't confirm one way or the other. If smooth motion is turned off, then you shouldn't see any dejudder effect (which is what I prefer), regardless of the Real Cinema setting. Of course, different viewers may have different preferences, as always.

I did check the VF550XVT LCD I still have, for what it's worth, and in the three resolutions I checked (1080i, 1080p, 1080p/24) you can turn both Off.

some questions
Apr 10, 2009 9:19PM PDT

hey thanks for your reply, you're right we could turn both of those options off, it was my mistake. But i still have two more questions:

1) are these settings for one specific output, like just cable tv, or game or blu-ray movie, or can we use these settings more generally with more like all of those three things?
2) one more thing i was getting confuzed about was about those settings of smooth motion and real cinema mode, you recommended to turn it off, and i understand it's not perfectly implemented on this vizio set, but isn't it going to be similar to a 60Hz tv then, i mean then when do we really make use of these options?
3) what audio setting you recommend on this set (flat, rock, jazz, pop, classic)?
4) and one last thing, can all these settings be set differently, for example if we are watching tv, and then we play games or watch blu-ray movie, then my question is can we customize settings for game, cable tv, and movie seperately?

Thanks

Vizio SV470XVT picture settings
May 1, 2009 9:01AM PDT

Iam a "Gadget Man" who truly learned a lesson:
Looking for the most technical solution doesn't always produce the best results.

I bought the $24.99 DVE Basics BlueRay Callibration Tool. My new Samsung 3600 wouldn't even play it.

Next, I bought the $29.99 Monster Cable Callibration Wizard. What a circle jerk; more than an hour of fiddling, and no visible improvements. Another waste of money and time.

I then discovered your settings, and the Vizio sparkles!

Thanks a milion.

Troubleshoot

I just purchased this TV and on the HD channels there seems to be a trail following any movement. Like a lag response due to slow refresh. Any suggestions?

Check your image source
Aug 9, 2009 10:54AM PDT

Have your checked your image sources? Do you get this "ghosting" effect on your TV from different inputs? It may be an issue with the original image source. Another thing to check is to see if internal TV menus animations have this image trail. If the problem goes away in the internal TV menu or from a different source, then you can narrow down the problem more. How long did ago you bought this? If it is still within return period, you might as well go get another one. If all else fails, you can always buy a new TV. Prices (at least in Canada) have really came down on these things compared to a year ago. Here's some recent prices in Canada for various LCD and Plasma HDTVs: http://www.wishabi.ca/plasma-lcd-tv/tv-display-projectors/canada-deals-prices/sc/44

Is it really able to play 24 frame material?
Nov 29, 2014 6:33AM PST

Because of my new Samsung hdtv, I'm checking out features I didn't understand before. My Dad has this Vizio and a Panasonic BD655 blu-ray player which has 24 frame capability, but when I tried to activate it doesn't. Apparently the player doesn't recognize the feature in the Vizio.

So, is the Vizio really capable of 24 frame?

Great info and link
Nov 30, 2014 2:22AM PST

Thank You very much Iffy. My Dad got that TV on a sale, so yes, it must have been of the first models.

The info in the link is important, although I wouldn't turn off Smooth Motion, because you do get artifacts. Instead, I'll try contacting Vizio. I know it's an old TV and issue, but who knows, maybe there's a way to do a firmware upgrade.
