Vizio Sound Bar shuts TV off after an hour

Jul 29, 2016 12:05PM PDT

First off, yes, I have shut off all energy saving options in settings across all my electronics and the sound bar.

I have a VIZIO SB4051-C0 40-Inch 5.1 Sound Bar (with Wireless Subwoofer & Rear Satellite Speakers.) It is hooked up to my Panasonic TV through an optical cable.

I have a PS4, XBOX One, and AppleTV running through a Kinivo HDMI splitter and into my TV.

When watching the PS4 or XBOX One the TV and sound bar will turn off after 1 hour (on the dot.) Which is extremely frustrating during game play or while watching movies. However, this does NOT happen while watching anything on the APPLE TV.

All auto/eco/power saving settings have been turned off on the sound bar, TV, consoles, apple TV.

This problem also occurs if I run the soundbar to the TV through HDMI.

Any thoughts here? I love this sounds bar, but this "quirk" is driving me crazy.

Thanks in advance!

https://www.vizio.com/sb4051c0.html doesn't mention a firmware update and my bet is that some mixup on ARC or CEC is in play. If the maker can't resolve this, pack it up and return it as defective.

Thanks for checking.

Thanks for the response. I sent a message to Vizio too. But I have a feeling you're right and it will just have to go back.

There is a workaround

But it may be unacceptable. Disable CeC on the TV or don't use a port that has that on it.

That did it!

Turned off the CeC (Viera Link) on my Panasonic TV and tested it out all week. So far so good! ::knock on wood::

Thank you so much for the workaround! You're our home entertainment hero.

Glad it helped.

It's one of those areas that at first can be confusing.
