VIZIO E Series recall

Jul 22, 2016 2:02PM PDT

I purchased a E701i-A3E a little over 2 years ago and it failed. After contacting Vizio I found the product was recalled due to defective parts used in the manufacturing process. The failure involves defective panels that cause the TCON board to fail. Unfortunately none of their registered customers were notified of the problem. The only way to find out about the problem is when your TV fails. In warranty customers can get Vizio service to come into your home, pickup the old TV and provide you with a new replacement but for out of warranty customers they will only provide $300.00 off the purchase of one of two models offered as replacement. The D70u-D3 is $950 or the E70u-D3 for $1,200.00 but neither replacement has a tuner as in the E701i-A3E. Keep this in mind if you have an E series or considering one.

VIZIO E Series recall - response with supporting link

Try this link, it explains my post about panel failures. My serial number did not fall into the units in recall yet my unit had the same failure which blows out the TCON board.

The VIZIO fix is approximately a $200 - $300 off the purchase of one of two models offered as replacements. The D70u-D3 for $950 or the E70u-D3 for $1,200.00 but neither replacement has a tuner as in the E701i-A3E. In warranty customer get a free replacement.

My advice is to package up what you have and head to small claims court. There are folk that go for more than the purchase price (damages) but they lose. At best you will get a refund or get tossed out because it's outside the warranty.

It doesn't matter if there was a recall. I read this and it made no mention of recall. There are folk that want a recall but the maker decided to double the warranty and not repair units.

By the way, Vizio is rather famous about not repairing sets. Why? Repairs can cost as much as a new set in mass production. A repair takes transport of the set to a regional depot, techs, spares and Vizio figured it out that it's not worth it. Just swap sets, offer cash and well, some folk blow up at that.
