Visual Land Prestige Pro 7D tablet

Dec 6, 2013 1:43AM PST

I recently purchased a pro 7d. This is my first android device. The tablet seems to be working fine except for internal storage. I downloaded 3 games from Play store. After that, the native apps began updating, but before it finished, I got an error message about not having enough storage to complete the operation. What???. The tablet supposed to have 16gb of storage. Trying to figure out why I was getting this message, I went into Settings/Storage and found that the Internal storage (Total space) was only showing .98gb. That can't be right, can it? Under that, Apps (App data & media content) was showing around 870mb (don't remember exactly). Under that, Nand Flash was showing Total space 13gb. After that I went to Apps in the settings and started clicking on them and saw the option to move to SD card. I didn't have a SD card inserted so I didn't choose the option. After hours of frustration, I went back to Settings/Apps and decided to try the option of moving to SD card. I thought that I would probably get an error message or a prompt to insert a SD card, but to my surprise, it worked! All the Apps that had the option to move, I moved them. Low and behold, the not enough storage message disappeared and the rest of the Apps that couldn't update before finished updating. Apparently the device has an internal SD card mounted using almost all of the total storage. That would be fine if there was an option of directing downloads to it instead of the default download directory with a puny .98gb of storage.

So, with all that said, I have 3 questions:
1. Is this going to be the norm for this device?
2. Am I not going to be able to use the whole 13gb of storage without jumping through hoops?

Seems like a poor setup to me. Or,
3. Is there something wrong with the tablet?

1. Yes.

2. Yes.
3. No.

This appears to be the same discussion that has been done over and over. I hope you don't find this offensive but it's rather well done.

Count yourself lucky the move to SD card works as some versions of Android removed that feature. This is like "the new Windows" and folk expected better. I can't guess why.

About the download/install to SD card question. Another well done area and no, this OS doesn't do that.

Thanks for your reply to my post, R. Proffitt. I got 2 other replies on 2 other forums stating the same. I'm new to the android os, so I just had to see if my tablet was working normally by getting answers from more knowledgeable people.

Am I understanding what you said?

Since you did not provide any source to "the same discussion that has been done over and over" I am lead to believe that there's no possible solution to the problem. That, in fact, the problem is with jelly bean 4.1 and not with the Visual Land Prestige Pro 7D tablet.

Come on, help us out here.

Is the best (only) solution to just trash the Pro 7D? Is there no update to JB 4.1 that will cure the problem? Is it time to start letting others who might consider buying one of these tablets know what they will be fighting if they make the same mistake that liebherr_99 and I made x months ago?

You called out the fact too.

Why do you expect others to fix what this maker and Google didn't fix or provide?

The move to SD is a feature that might be solved with those move to SD apps and again the web is full of that discussion, why duplicate it again?

And finally, not one version of android has a "download+install to SD" feature. You seem to think others can fix that. Think about it. If google and XDA developers haven't done this, find out why.

--> Parting tip. See if there are new roms at XDA Developers.
