Vista - XP wireless adhoc network

Jan 5, 2007 7:02AM PST

How do you set up Vista to share it's (wired) internet connection with other computers on a wireless ad hoc network?

I have a desktop computer (with Vista) connected to the internet through an ethernet cable, and I also have a wireless PCI card that I want to use to share the internet connection. I'm trying to create a wireless ad hoc network between the desktop and my laptop (Windows XP). I can create the wireless network between the two computers, but I can not connect to the internet (wirelessly through the desktop) with my laptop. On my desktop (vista) I checked the box to allow Internet Connection Sharing, but is there something else I have to do to share the Vista's internet connection? Thanks

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I downloaded and installed the update you suggested on my laptop with XP, but still no Internet Sharing over the wireless ad hoc network. Here's how I tried to make the network:

1. Vista desktop computer is connected to Internet (wired)
2. create ad hoc network with Vista desktop
3. connect to wireless ad hoc network with XP laptop
4. turn on Internet Connection Sharing on Vista desktop
5. try to access internet in XP laptop

Am I forgetting something or doing a step out of order? Thanks again for the help!
