Vista will not recognize iPod...Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oct 17, 2008 10:00AM PDT

I bought an 80gig iPod and it worked awesomely with my old computer using XP. I had no problems with iTunes or the iPod. I started having problems with old computer not to mention it was very slow so I bought a new Gateway computer. It is about 10 times faster than my old one but while I can run iTunes, it doesn't recognize my iPod. I plug the iPod in and get a beep, and if I unplug it, there is a beep so it knows something is there. If I boot computer with iPod plugged in, it tries to boot off the iPod and I have to unplug the iPod so it will boot normally. I took the computer to the Nerd Herd at Best Buy and they do not have a clue how to fix the problem.

I am about to beat this thing with a hammer... Help!!!

I have every USB port, and back and have same problem. The iPod starts to sync then goes immediately to the "OK to disconnect" screen. It will recharge though.

And since my old computer finally died, I now have a high priced paper weight since I cannot get the $%^&* thing to work...

I have loaded and removed iTunes about a dozen times and also rebooted my iPod and it will not work with Vista. It does with XP so have it loaded again.
