Vista Update/Restart Loop

Feb 4, 2011 11:17AM PST

I am having a problem with a computer that is stuck in a Windows Update / Restart loop.PC attempts to configure updates & gets to 64%,and either restarts,or hangs there for hours. The only places I can access are the screen with main processor and memory testing. At bottom of page are two options:F1 to retry boot,or F2 for setup utility.I can ALSO access boot page, but can't boot into normal windows or safe mode.If anyone has had this problem,or knows how to fix this,I would REALLY appreciate any help.
Thank you in advance

I wonder what machine this is.

There were some issues with some machines long ago but I missed the model and make. I wonder if this is that old HP AMD issue.

Vista Update/Restart Loop

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the inquiry..the machine is an '07 Dell running Vista Home Premium,& I believe has been upgraded to 64 Bit Ultimate Home.(PC belongs to a friend.)I read several forums on this issue,& it does seem to be a problem with older machines.I attempted a repair disc to no avail.I couldn't get into the specs for obvious reasons so,that's pretty much all the info I have.
Thanks again,
LH

Hey Bob,
I appreciate you offering to help, but I knew it was a long shot with so little info to go on.Thank you very much for the time you took to write the posts.I have given the PC back to friend, she will be taking it to repair shop(ouch!)
Thanks again,
