by swr86 / March 15, 2008 12:15 AM PDT

On 3/2 I recieved notice of avalable updates.Update for Win.Vista KB940510 was one that was said to be an important update and an optional update, Intel Corp.-Video-Intel(R)82945G Express Chipset Family. I downlaoded and installed both. After shutdown and starting back up the next day I have size and appearence problems with almost every thing on my computer. Most noticeably web pages. I've tried resetting resolution, appearance settings, font size, and the Zoom setting in IE7 but I still have problrms relating to size.
This is not my first post reguarding this and by replys to the othe message I'm not the only person having trouble after this update.
Has anyone actually fixed this problem? Plese let me know!!
Thank You!

The lesson is...

Never accept drivers from Microsoft. Or learn how to undo the damage. For this driver I would have taken the cue that there was an update but headed to intel.com for the driver.

That Vista Update KB940510 was an Important...

update that applied to Windows Vista and concerns Vista's ability to detect activation exploits that bypass product activation and that interfere with usual Windows operation. Quote from Microsoft's KB explanation. "Note Installing this update does not affect the functionality of your operating system."

I installed this without any noticeable effect on my system. Therefore as Bob has suggested most likely the issue is with the other optional update you installed from Microsoft. Are you able to uninstall the the optional Intel update? Then visit the Intel support site for the latest update if they suggest any.

Good luck!

I had a problem with an Intel update from Microsoft.
by Dango517 / March 17, 2008 4:21 PM PDT

I searched it out on the Intel site and was advised it was not for my processor. This happen occasionally with updates for other third party vendors as well. This even happens with Microsoft own up dates, less frequently yet occasionally they send alone something that doesn't fit my PC. At this point....if it installs it's supposed to be there, if it doesn't it's not, it's just that simple.

Wonder how many users they send out up dates to each month? 100 Millions, 200 million? I look at it on the bright side, it's better they send me something I don't need and it doesn't install then if they send me something wrong and it does. Happy Well that's been my experience so far...you never know.
