And You've Tried Using The Manual Install?
May 21, 2008 4:44AM PDT

The full downloadable installer can be downloaded from the link below.(BROADBAND NEEDED: It's a 435 MB file!).

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b0c7136d-5ebb-413b-89c9-cb3d06d12674&DisplayLang=en

The key when installing such things is to make sure the computer is clean and functioning well.. Cleanout all the junk files, temporary internet files, and Temp folders. Uninstall any programs you don't use.. Run your antivirus and antispyware scans to be sure everything's clean. And once that's done, run a Defrag and Chkdsk to optimize the drive.

In addition, if you've already installed any beta or RC installations for SP1, uninstall them first.

Hope this helps.

Compatibal with Ultimate?
May 21, 2008 5:00AM PDT

I have done that before with a vista Home premium, but there where all kinds of problums with Vista Ultimate and it's language packs. That is also why i'd like to install it threw windows updates. So is Vista Ultimate SP1 compatibal?

Yes...
May 21, 2008 5:04AM PDT

SP1 is designed for all editions of Vista...there's no special Ultimate edition. In fact, the manual installation contains all of the language pack and other Ultimate-only updates and chooses what to install upon installation, whereas Windows Update chooses the components before download, which is why the latter is so much smaller.

Have all windows updates.
May 21, 2008 5:08AM PDT

So if I have all windows updates shouldn't be a problem installing SP1 on Ultimate?

Causes no problem at all...
May 21, 2008 5:13AM PDT

The older updates will be updated or superseded. SP-1 takes care of everything.

Again, I must stress that I had no problem installing the service pack... of course there can always be exceptions. But I would feel confident in installing and feel you will have good results. At any rate SP-1 is needed... suggest going for it!

May 21, 2008 1:17PM PDT

..and there are no guarantess here, but it shouldn't be an issue.. At this point, I've put SP1 on 5 different customer machines. Only one was "Ultimate" but it went fine.

Hope this helps.

SP1 on Ultimate works great.

The SP1 on vista Ultimate works just fine. Sugest backing up data and turning of all start up items before doing so.
