Isn't Ares one of those?

P2P programs create security issues so why allow such on a machine?

My advice is to remove it before you do real damage.

Just share what you are running.

This can happen with other P2P apps.

Gone now

I've made some changes, so, no problem now. Appears to have been a bug/glick in program, not associated with any one program, just the toolbar. It would lock up for no apparent reason then prompt for a response to reboot. Logged it and checked for errors, no response, still unsure of cause. Hope it doesn't return, very annoying.

Doesn't seem to be what you are running.

I see "FreeRAM XP Pro" on your list. Didn't we determine that free ram programs were a sham years ago?

I don't see it that way.

This little FreeRAM program is very reliable and does a fine job of keeping my RAM recovered. I use two others that I rely on on a daily basis, Iobit SmartDefrag and SpeedFan. SpeedFan is used for heavy usage periods when I'm indexing the hard drive (Virus scans etc.) and video and gaming applications when overheating is a problem. In other words I don't use it all the time but at least daily. I do use the other two continuously.

I use other programs as well, other then those that I've listed.

The only "person to person" software I run is Yahoo messenger but this is an "on demand application" and is seldom used. I'm also using email but I wouldn't defined it as "person to person" or a real time program.

Again, I think Vista has a toolbar bug and if it's "other" program related then it's not easy to identify.

I had a problem multi booting Ubuntu/Linux so I'm on a new boot up of Vista. I'll just have to wait and see If the problem returns. It hasn't yet, so these programs aren't the cause.

Note: I'm running Vista/Business.

Overheating?
Aug 28, 2007 1:09AM PDT

Why would a machine overheat? Why isn't that a warranty issue?

-> Again, free ram is wasted ram in VM OSes. Imagine if people ever found out what a sham free ram programs were. How would those that made such earn a living?

Again, the free ram issue is something that dates back to bad (or good?) old DOS days. Kudos to those that found a way to sucker people into this one.

It's back then it goes away, it's back and then it goes away

Last night it was crashing again. I was putting the CPU to some really heavy use. I tried to track it down in Process explorer last night but found nothing. Today it's fine. I have not found a solution.

In my case this could be a power supply problem. I've added a number of new hardware items and when I push the system it runs out of wattage so something has to give and the problem shows up as a Toolbar crash. Only a guess.

What's going on with yours? Watch it carefully and let us know what's happening when it crashes.

By the way, Vista also has a service in it called Superfetch that tweaks the system over time, especially when idle. Superfetch works like an automatic optimizer/debugger. In short because of this service one day Vista may run one way then the next day another. This maybe "in part" why the problem fades in and out as it does. Superfetch is trying to fix it but can't or it does and it returns.
